At the core of the work, I’m a storyteller.
I’m Andy Lagunes, a Bay Area photographer and creative partner. I work with people who need help telling their story visually: ambulance crews, bars and venues, teams and promoters. We decide what to show before I make the pictures.
Most of my work starts before the camera comes out. I sit down with a team, learn what the pictures need to do, and build the shoot from there: a careers page, a menu, a launch. I spend my days inside a marketing team doing exactly that, so I know what a photograph has to survive once it leaves my hands: the website hero, the job ad, the phone screen. I look for emotion, connection, and the small details that tell the larger story, and I direct only as much as the frame needs.
On a shoot I show up early, learn the room, and work quietly. I would rather wait for a real moment than manufacture one, and I would rather light what is already there than bring the studio with me. When a project needs direction, a campaign or a portrait session, I direct with a light hand: enough for the frame to be deliberate, never so much that the person disappears behind the pose.
I photograph brands and workplaces, ambulance crews, bars and their teams, nightlife, and live events. One of those comes from my own life, healthcare, and you can read about that inside that gallery. Everything is shot in and around the Bay Area, and I travel for the right story.
